Officer sues family of child who almost drowns

October 11th, 2007 · No Comments

Here is another one from the unbelievable gall department – a Casselberry (Fla.) police officer who responds to a call for drowning child falls on the wet floor and breaks her knee. In spite of the fact that the police paid her medical bills and lost time, she filed suit against the child’s mother and grandparents, accusing them of negligence for having water on the floor after pulling the one-year-old out of the pool.

Of course, she made out better than the child. He suffered brain damage and now lives in a nursing home. One tube lets him breathe, and another feeds him. The grandparents who are being sued are still struggling to pay the bills.

Fortunately, the City of Casselberry displayed some common sense. The city manager suspended the officer, who since has dropped the suit.
